Survivor Challenge

Crazy Chemistry

Kids love to watch things fizz, foam and bubble. Kids will perform experiments to help them understand the science between acids and bases, mixtures, reactions and other chemistry related concepts. Make a lunch bag explode, send rockets into the sky and even make your own soda pop!

Game On!

Everyone loves to have fun, and some of the most fun games can help develop various skills and talents. In this program, students will learn and play fun and educational games that can improve visual processing, memory, logic, reasoning and more! Strategy, skill, risk-taking, patience and luck are used to play some new and classic games:  Chess, Sorry, Jenga, Trivial Pursuit Jr, Clue and more!

Green Screen and Special FX Filmmaking

Students will work together to create a short film that will be created completely in front of a green screen, with special effects added to allow their imagination to run wild! Through the process of creating the film the students will work on story and character development, camera technique, green screen, FX editing, and more! All projects will be edited and a DVD will be provided to every child in the class.

Photography and Photoshop

Say Cheese! Students will take photographs and learn to edit photographs in Photoshop. Participants will learn the basics of composing and taking photos, understanding photo retouching, compositing, poster design, and more. Hope you are ready for your close up!

Drumming!

Children will learn proper drumming techniques and rhythms as they explore their natural abilities and use their “inner” beats and rhythms. Through ensemble playing, they will discover how important it is to listen to others!  Many percussion instruments will be available, including parts of the modern drum set.  And at times, the instructor will play guitar for accompaniment. Come explore the fun of percussion instruments!

Art & Artists
Kids hear the stories of famous artists and then create works in their style! Suerat and Pointalism, Cassat and Impressionism, Braque and Cubism and many more! Students will get a chance to look very closely like Georgia Okeefe, work on a grid like Chuck Close, and make a tessellation like M C Escher! color Watercolor, acrylic, scratch paper, graphite! This class is a great intro to art for those with no experience: they will build confidence and skill. For kids with some art experience it will enhance their knowledge and sharpen their saws.

Mural Painting

Students will be learning how to create and produce a mural from start to finish. Class will be hands on, students will begin by participating in painting the mural sketched on the walls in the new MPR.  How to use the brush and colors and other painting techniques to visually communicate content thru simple techniques will be the focus.  Throughout the class students will be working on an individual mural idea that they will finish by the end of class, something that can be hung up as a complete and finished work of art that is developed around an idea of their own choosing.

Arts & Crafts

Each class will be centered around a fun theme including a story, song, and/or skit. Students will participate in creating crafts using a wide variety of media and will demonstrate their creativity to make every project unique! Special events such as puppet shows, visits by cute creatures, and improvisation games will add to the fun!

Think About It
Every day, people, animals, and things move from place to place. You travel to school. You travel to the park. The books you read move from where they were made to you. The toys you play with move from the factory to the store to the places where you play. The things we use every day travel:

How did it get to all those places?
Your challenge is to discover how people, animals, and things move to get to you.

Build It
Time to build your model. Can you show where and how your thing moved? Show all or part of its travel. Make something in your model move.

Show It
Make a Show Me! poster. Show your team and tell something nice about each member. Show the thing you picked. Show how it moved to you. Show how you learned about it. Show how others can learn more.
