Vendors

Parents, please download our instructions for ordering home study materials HERE

Individuals and businesses in the Santa Clarita Valley and the surrounding area that provide educational services, materials, and supplies are invited to apply to be an approved vendor for SCVi’s independent study students.  Educational materials include games, software, books, and supplies that further the educational goals of a student.  Educational services include classes or instruction in physical education (e.g. dance, tumbling and gymnastics, tennis), instruction in the arts (e.g. musical instrument instruction, song, and fine arts), as well as classes or tutoring in math, science, and language arts.

In order to be added to the approved vendor list, businesses that provide educational goods and materials must be willing to accept purchase orders and be willing to invoice for goods after receipt of said goods.

Businesses and individuals providing educational services must . . .

1.  be authorized with the California Department of Justice to submit background checks and request records on all employees that may have supervisory or disciplinary control over a minor.   Individuals who provide educational services must agree to submit to fingerprinting in order for SCVi to conduct a background check through the DOJ,

2.  maintain a $1,000,000 liability insurance policy for the business naming SCVi Charter School as an additional insured,

3  agree to bill SCVi for monthly services via purchase order,

4.  maintain a current business license, and

5.  conduct classes and instruction in a public facility.

The Home Study Path

Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, "Life is a journey, not a destination." And as anyone who's ever been on a journey knows, part of the excitement is deciding what paths to take along the way. At SCVi, we are on a journey to create a lifelong passion for learning in our students and their families. For some, that is happening in SCVi's classrooms. For others, it's through our long-term independent home study path. . . .

Long-Term
Independent Home Study

Homeschooling, or as SCVi calls it, independent home study--educating your children at home instead of enrolling them in a traditional public or private school--is a growing movement in the Santa Clarita Valley among parents who wish to provide their children with a custom, or more individualized, education.  The Hart District estimates there are approximately 2,000 families choosing this method of schooling.

Home study enables parents to form stronger bonds with their children, provides one-on-one, distraction-free instruction, enables gifted students to receive challenges they crave, enhances geography, art, and music studies, and allows students freedom to explore and develop skills based on their individual needs and interests.

Santa Clarita Valley International Charter School has responded to the needs of the homeschooling community by establishing a truly unique "hybrid" home study program available to students in kindergarten through eighth grade (9-12 to be added in years to come).  Students in the SCVi Home Study Program are truly members of the SCVi family.  They are invited and welcomed to whole-school activities, including field trips, community service projects, special events, holiday programs, special speakers' engagements, assemblies, international day, and after-school enrichment activities.  In addition, regular on-site classes in language arts, math, and other subject areas are provided to home study students.

Short
-Term Independent Study
We do have short-term independent study for students who have extended absences  (more than a day or two).  Please talk to your teacher if you need this option.  It does help the school keep the ADA up, and we do appreciate it very much when parents choose to do this.
