Tim comes to SCVi with four years of teaching experience. He has taught seventh and eighth grade math, history, and science for Keppel Union School District. Additionally, Tim spent a year volunteering through Harvard University's WorldTeach program to teach English as a foreign language on a tiny island in the Marshall Islands.

Tim earned his bachelor's degree and teaching credential through California State University, Chico. He is currently working on his master's degree in teaching through USC. He can be reached at tim.alves@scvcharterschool.org.

Tina Navarro
Tina is very excited to start her 3rd year teaching at SCVi. She has grown both personally and professionally and gained a tremendous amount of passion and commitment toward educating her learners to be successful 21st century leaders. She has been trained in Love & Logic, The 7 Habits, Win-Win Discipline and Understand by Design.

Tina grew up in the Santa Clarita Valley, constantly involved in sports and graduating high school as a 4-year basketball player. Prior to becoming a teacher, she worked with children for 7 years as a health club's child center supervisor. During this time, she organized field trips and extracurricular activities, developed childcare programs, organized summer camps and coordinated birthday parties. She graduated from the California State University, Northridge, where she received her multiple subject teaching credential, and a bachelor's degree in liberal studies with a concentration in Chicano studies. She considers herself fortunate to have been placed at SCVi for her second semester teaching experience and to have found a school whose philosophies, values and ideas coincide with her own.

Tina is passionate about physical fitness and providing students with opportunities to be healthy and active. She regularly participates in marathons and enjoys taking hikes with her dog. She is thrilled, eager, and honored to begin this third year as part of a wonderful team of educators who are committed to making the learning experience for students worthwhile! She can be reached at tina.navarro@scvcharterschool.org.

Matt Watson
Matt is excited to join the Explorer team in his first year at SCVi. He comes to us with 16 years of teaching experience at many different levels. Most recently, Matt spent five years as a teacher and administrator at a school in Quito, Ecuador, and yes, he is fluent in Spanish!

After graduating from Saugus High School, Matt received his BA in history and MA in Education from CSUN along with a great deal of education and experience in education along the way. In 2005, First Lady Laura Bush, who was touring and researching innovative classrooms, visited his classroom.

He enjoys SCUBA diving and skiing and is looking forward to getting involved in the Santa Clarita community once again. He can be reached at matt.watson@scvcharterschool.org.

Christine Orth
This is Christine's fourth year as a member of SCVi's staff.  She loves SCVi and truly believes that being part of this fantastic community has enriched her love for teaching, development as an educator and growth as a person.

Christine has over 10 years of experience working with children. She holds a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and spent her teenage years as a martial arts instructor, teaching students from ages 3 to adult. It was during this time that she decided to become a teacher. Christine is passionate about having positive, trusting relationships with her students and individualizing their education to help them ensure success in all areas of their life.

After graduating from Saugus High School, Christine enrolled in the Integrated Teacher Education Program at California State University, Northridge. She graduated with a bachelor of arts in liberal studies with a concentration in language and diversity and her multiple subject teaching credential. Christine feels that her experience was extremely worthwhile at CSUN, where she learned of the importance and effectiveness of project-based learning and interdisciplinary projects.

At SCVi, Christine has been a member of the Curriculum Leadership Team, where she benefits from sharing and discussing various approaches to teaching and learning with her colleagues. She has received training in Love & Logic, 7 Habits, Understanding by Design, and Win/Win Discipline. She also holds a certificate through The City of Santa Clarita's CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) program.

Christine recently purchased her first home and has been busy making it beautiful and her own. She "sharpens the saw" by spending time with friends and family, training in Tae Kwon Do whenever she can, and taking care of her dog, Ragan. She can be reached at christine.orth@scvcharterschool.org.
