Q: When does the school year start? 

A: The first day of school, as well as other important dates, can be found on the Schedule page.


Q: When do I find out who my child's facilitator (teacher) is?
A: SCVi hosts a Meet the Facilitators Night prior to the first day of school. The exact date is announced via the Monday Message (join our e-mail list) and other school announcement systems. Primary Years learners will find out their room assignment, and older learners will meet their facilitator teams.


Q: What time does school start and end? 
A: Start and end times vary by grade. More information can be found on the School Hours page.


Q: What is Family Giving and how much am I expected to give? 
A: SCVi is a free public school, and no contribution is ever required to attend. SCVi respects the privacy of its students and families and will not publicize the identity of donors. Annual Family Giving donations directly benefit every K-12 student by providing hands-on curriculum, state-of-the-art technology, field trips, college visits, art materials, professional development, and the day-to-day operating expenses not funded by the state of California. The suggested donation amount is $365 per family + $100 per additional child.


Q: Does the school provide transportation?
A: Not at this time. For your convenience, we have an online Carpool Board.


Q: Who can I contact to update my child's admissions or emergency information? 
A: Please contact registrar@scvi-k12.org.


Q: What school supplies will my child (or their facilitator) need? 
A: This information is generally available at the Meet the Facilitators event and on the School Supplies page.



Q: Does the school have a PTA?
A: Rather than a PTA/PTO, SCVi volunteer committees work together to meet the needs of our school community in the classroom, at events, and in many other ways. To see a list of volunteer committees and volunteer needs, please see the
Volunteering page.


Q: I know SCVi is a family participation school. How many hours am I expected to work and how will I know where or how I can volunteer?
A: Families are asked to participate 80 hours per year, which works out to 2 hours per week or 8 hours per month. These hours can be earned through a variety of opportunities including classroom volunteering, operational / facilities assistance, relevant professional expertise, administrative tasks or by attending Parent University workshops and seminars. Monday Message for current volunteer needs.


Q: Does my child need to bring a laptop or other source of technology? 
A: Our technology goal is a one-to-one technology-to-learner ratio. Learners are encouraged to provide a source of technology, be that a laptop, iPad, or tablet.

Q: Does the school have a snack and lunch program?
A: SCVi offers a lunch program, which you can learn more about on the
Cafe page. Additionally, healthy snacks are available at the Snack Shack and vending machines.


Q: Does the school have a newsletter?
A: All communication at SCVi is online and via e-mail.
