Q: Can we install our own apps and music?
A: Yes. There are some great educational apps out there and as we move forward, your facilitator may make suggestions and/or requests that certain apps be added based on classroom projects. We also want learners to feel free to add their own apps. Parents/learners are responsible for keeping their apps (and all data) synced to a computer at home and your own itunes account.
For more information on great educational apps, please visit the link on our website (coming soon)
For iPad support, including syncing, please visit: http://www.apple.com/support/ipad/syncing/
Q: Can I, as a parent, control what apps my child installs on his/her iPad?
A: Yes, you can use parental controls to control the loading of apps and making other changes to the iPad by enabling restrictions. Locate these settings on your iPad by tapping Settings > General > Restrictions.
For more information or assistance, please feel free to contact SCVi’s Tech Dept or visit apple’s website where you can download your user manual or search “parental controls”: http://support.apple.com/manuals/ipad/
Q: Will the internet be filtered on the learner’s iPad’s?
A: The iPad’s will be on the same network when they are at school as the rest of the school’s computers. While we do our best, please keep in mind that no internet filtering is 100% effective.
Q: What happens if my iPad gets damaged or broken?
A: If an iPad is damaged or breaks, the IT Dept must be notified within 48 hours so that an insurance claim can be started right away. Parents are responsible for paying the $40 insurance deductible at time of claim for the repair. There are terms and conditions to your insurance policy that you need to be aware of.
To contact the IT Dept, please email scvi.tech@scvcharterschool.org
To review the insurance terms and conditions, please visit: http://www.gocare.com/
Q: What happens if my iPad is lost or stolen?
A: Unfortunately loss and theft is not covered under your insurance plan. Please review with your child the importance of bringing his/her iPad home with him nightly and stored in his backpack when not in use. iPads should never be left out unattended or left at school overnight.
Q: Can my child charge his iPad at school?
A: iPads have an amazing battery life that can get them through the school day without needing to be charged. Students are responsible for charging their iPads at home and bringing them to school prepared. It is not recommended that they carry their chargers with them as they might get lost.
SCVi Learners may be eligible for student discounts on Apple products through Apple directly. You can find more information here, by entering zip code 91381 and selecting Santa Clarita Valley International.
